2008 OMHOF College Scholarship Recipient Kate Davis releases new music video; new album coming in November

Hello, it’s me. Round 3! I am pleaaaased to share the title track of my forthcoming album with you, “Trophy”! There’s a reason this one named the album. It’s a special song for me and definitely felt like a departure into something bigger.

I think the most fun I’ve ever had in my life was making the “Trophy” video. I got to team up with one of my best friends, Holden Brown. He and I have been buddies since we met at a program called YoungArts in 2009. He had amazing ideas and aesthetics for this video and we worked together to bring the whole thing to life!

The video is a Star Search inspired talent show where I play each competing character. It’s all about doing whatever it takes to win… Though the concept is dark and twisted, I feel extraordinarily triumphant in regards to my new album and all that has gone into creating a full work that represents me to date. I hope you enjoy it.

ICYMI, I’m also stoked to share my third single, “Open Heart”. Those of you who pay close attention might realize that this song has been around for a while. It’s an important little bop. I’m so glad it’s finally out in the world fully produced and ready to thump it’s way into your hearts.

The video was really fun to make. I drew two different drawings of a heart – one slightly bigger- so that I could swap out the images to give the illusion of a beating heart. Add some blood, take a still, add some more blood, etc…  Since the song is literal, I thought a bleeding heart could also be quite literal. I imagine that’s what it really should look like when it’s broken. Perhaps the most thrilling part of the video production was that I decided to wear white jeans (quick plug for FELS NAPTHA) and they turned out just fine.
